The use of cooking-extrusion in animal feed has enabled many advances. The best cooking of raw materials promotes digestibility and thus good health and growth of animals. The gelatinization rates obtained (cooking of starches) are greater than 95%. Anti-nutritional factors (present for example in soybeans) are completely destroyed. The same applies to micro-organisms: when they leave an extruder they have all been destroyed.
An extruder can be combined with other machines such as a press for extracting soybean oil.
